When most people think of an engagement ring its a simple band, with a diamond in the cut of your choice. In this instance, picking the cut of the diamond and the type of band is probably the biggest decision. Gold or white? Princess cut? Brilliant cut? When staring at a line of plain engagement rings in a jewelry store, the decision is usually pretty easy. Maybe you don’t even get that decision if you are instead offered an heirloom ring. While all of that is fine, your ring ends up looking like everyone else’s, the size of the diamond usually being the main differentiating factor.

However, there are other options. Picture a rich blue sapphire surrounded by a cluster of diamonds set in a unique band with a Celtic knot design. First it’s the sapphire that catches people’s eye, but as they look closer they are intrigued by the design of the Celtic engagement ring. If blue isn’t your color, what about emeralds? An emerald in the center with two smaller diamonds on the side set in a subtle yet intricately designed two-toned band? Or, perhaps even a ruby?

A high impact piece of jewelry is one that means something to the wearer, but also draws you into the beauty of it’s design. Using stones other than diamonds allows you to create this high impact look that stands out from the typical diamond and a gold band. Using different stones also allows you to add to the meaning of your design by using color as well as attributes of the stone. Blue for example, is the color of loyalty and faith, two aspects that are important to any relationship. Sapphires were often considered sacred stones to represent divinity and royalty. The engagement ring Prince Charles gave Diana was a sapphire. If an emerald is your choice, green represents growth and stability.  Emeralds have long been a choice for engagement rings because they represent a deeply connected and stable love. Emeralds are also said to promote harmony in relationships. Rubies are literally the color of love, and they are said to promote bliss and the fulfillment of one’s dreams.

Given all the positive qualities these different gem’s possess, it’s hard to go wrong in choosing one for your engagement ring. Supplementing these powerful stones with an equally powerful Celtic knot design to symbolically show your union is a high impact look indeed. Historically, priests, kings and queens have all used these stones for this reason. The extravagant jewelry and crowns of kings and queens have always been adorned in sapphires, emeralds, and rubies because they illustrate the power and presence of the position and the individual as well as catching the eye of onlookers with their beauty. What better way to honor something as important as a life-long bond than with the same jewels used by royalty?

These kinds of engagement rings can also be paired elegantly with other pieces of Jewelry either as a bridal set or just for every day wear.  Gemstones like sapphire, emerald or ruby stand out when paired with pearls, or even a simple pendant or pair of earrings. Choosing a Celtic knot band also gives you the option to pair it with other Celtic jewelry, perhaps a knot pendant or set of earrings. Celtic engagement rings easily blend in with any type of jewelry. Gemstones will only enhance what they are paired with rather than competing with them. They are also strong stones that will wear well overtime without losing color or shine.

Whatever your taste gemstones offer a beautiful alternative to the traditional diamond engagement ring. Using gemstones can make a statement about your union that is deeply meaningful and richly colorful. Coupled with a Celtic design, you can honor your heritage or simply wear a ring that is an intricate and timeless piece of jewelry.

If you have a small breed dog, you may have wished at some point
or another that you could just put your dog in one of your dog carriers  and sneak them onto the plane under your arm. It is always so much
nicer to have them with you rather than mis them when you are away, and while it may seem a good idea at the time sneaking a dog on as carry on luggage is not the best idea. Somewhere along the way, your little guy is bound to scream out or bark at least once—landing you in the hot seat. That doesn’t sound like fun at all, but traveling with your dog as allowed carry on luggage certainly does, doesn’t it?

It’s Slowly Catching On…

While the idea of being able to take your dog in as carry on luggage is
not confined to only one airline, it certainly does not meet the
industry standards. These rules only allow people with small dog carriers and equally tiny dogs to ride on board. The airline industry has
responded to the increase in numbers of small dogs and toy breeds being taken in by people who like to travel with them, and responded to that with this new thing. Many times, no more than two dogs are allowed on the plane at once—one in the front, one in the rear.

If there is a person who swears by a bad enough allergy to not want to
travel with the pet or there is a person who is scared enough of the
pet not to board the plane, the traveler with the pet will normally be
scheduled another flight. While the health of human passengers always
takes precedent over the small dog allowance, most flyers are accommodated for their inconvenience.

Getting Airline Approved Carriers

It’s important to note that dogs must be in airline approved travel pet carriers in order to be allowed on the plane. The carrier is one of
the things that is assessed by the airline employee before the pet is allowed on board the plane, and if the carrier does not appear to be big enough for the pet or even seems to be too big, the pet will not be allowed to board.

In addition, there must be some means for absorption of any messes that the dog may make in their crate, and pet owners are expected to take care of any such incidents properly and as sanitarily as possible.

When looking for carriers that adhere to airline carry on  standards,
it is best to buy the carrier from places that know what the airline
standards are. All pets in their carrier must be able to fit underneath
the front seat, although that will not be expected. That regulation is
the size by which the airlines go by in order to determine if the carrier
and dog combined are too big for a comfortable lap ride.

Pet Carriers on Wheels

When it comes to pets being able to ride in your lap, pet carriers on wheels usually do not work too well for such a need. While the end
result is completely up to the person who decides whether or not the pet is allowed to board. If the wheels can be taken off or discarded, most travel carriers that are appropriately sized for a dog can be taken on, although that is up to the airline itself. It is a good idea to leave wheeled pet carriers at home if hoping to travel with your small dog in your lap as opposed to underneath the cabin with the rest of the animals.

If you want to travel with your pet, there is nothing wrong with
that—at least in the eyes of some of the airlines. Of course, it is advised
that people who want to travel with pets make their reservation as far
in advance as possible as only so many pets are allowed per flight,
normally capped at one to two per plane. Passengers are only allowed to bring one pet aboard the flight with them, and they must have a ‘ticket’ of their own. In most cases, these pet boarding passes start at $100 or so and move up from there. In the end, being able to travel with your most loyal friend is well worth the price.

Spring is a time of new beginnings. Plants send up tender shoots from the damp earth, birdsong fills the air as they begin to build their nests and new growth is everywhere as the flowering trees burst into blossom. Spring is also a great time for a wedding. The choice of flowers available are more varied as seasonal flowers bloom, and spring colors are always appealing as wedding colors. Spring weather is often fine enough for outdoor weddings as well, so adding a garden theme is easy and attractive.

Garden weddings are popular for a reason. Nature provides the decoration, whether it be a canopy of green overhead, the roaring of a waterfall nearby, or the colorful profusion of a garden. There are many garden themed wedding favors you can find online by doing a simple search with your favorite search engine, or you can make some yourself.

If you’re having an evening wedding, candles with garden designs on them would look nice on the tables at the reception.  Choose a floral design that is echoed in the bridal bouquet like roses or daisies, for example. Or you could stick with flowers that bloom specifically in spring, like daffodils, tulips or crocus. You may be able to find gel candles with your favorite blossoms embedded in them online. If you plan far enough ahead, bulbs can be forced in pots to set on the tables to echo the theme. Silk flowers can also be tied together in small nosegays and set on the tables. Guests can take one home at the end of the night.

Others may like to include plantable favors, like wildflower or other floral seeds. You can buy some seeds already implanted into homemade papers that can be cut into heart shapes and the names of the bride and groom could be put on in calligraphy. The seed paper is then planted in the garden and watered so the plants will grow. Alternatively, small packets of seeds can be tied together with a silk blossom of the flower the seeds will grow into. It can all be tied with a satin ribbon imprinted with the names of the bride and groom or with a saying like "as these flowers grow, so grows our love."  There are many other ways to package up souvenir seeds like small tins, semi-see-through envelopes attached to a silk flower or small envelopes decorated with flowers.

If the idea of plantable favors appeals to you, run with it. Since you’re including seeds, the choices are unlimited. Choose your favorites, anything from violets to sunflowers. Or you can choose a flower with a unique love-themed name, like Love in a Mist. The nice thing about plantable favors is they are used to beautify the earth instead of being thrown in a drawer. Eco-friendly, they will create a living reminder of your wedding for all of your guests for years to come. A plantable garden wedding favor will linger in the memories of your guests for a long time, and they will talk about it every time they go to a wedding, remembering what a unique favor they received.
