There is something to be said for a personalized gift. Let’s face it; there are many of us who have received personalized gifts that were not so hot. I always think of the poor kid in A Christmas Story who opens his present to find homemade pajamas, pink ones no less. There are stories of horrific personalized snafu’s circulating everywhere. Don’t become the next villain in a present gone wrong story!

The main thing that sets a personalized gift apart is that it requires time and planning on the part of the giver. Be sure to shop around online. Just be sure that you read the fine print and know exactly what product the product is you are looking at.

Even some small item that you know about the person could lead to the perfect personalized gift. For example, I know of a man who loves to brew his own beer. This is a hobby of his that he takes very seriously. I went online and found a site that allowed me to personalize a beer glass or a mug. I bought the man a personalized beer mug with a personalized medallion attached. It was really fun deciding what to have engraved on it. He really seemed to enjoy the gift and uses it all the time.

There are usually stores in your local mall that carry items to be personalized. These stores are full of options for just about anyone. If you are a tactile type of person and need to see and touch things this can be a worthwhile trip, even if all you do is take the time to get an idea on items you like or do not like. Keep in mind that you can go home and shop online if you find an item that is more money than you want to spend.

Check and double check your message. Once you have committed to having something personalized, make sure to do it right! If you have chosen to get an item engraved be positive that everything is spelled correctly. I once received a gift with my name spelled incorrectly. The gift is one that I cherish and use almost daily. I do notice the name misspelling now and then, however, and wish that it had been done correctly.

What is the reason for the gift? Plaques and frames are easy gifts to place a message on. A special phrase or expression of thanks can be very meaningful for the recipient. Congratulations for graduations, weddings, and new babies are excellent moments to give frames for. Usually, those types of occasions produce pictures left and right that are begging to be framed. Do not forget to include a nice card with the gift as well as wrapping when appropriate. Remember, a well put together package helps complete the overall sentiment.
