The common mistake that people make is thinking that no matter how much crime rates increase every year, they can rely on the government to take action in improving security for everyone. Maybe it’s true that the government is doing its best to keep people safe. Besides, it is supposedly one of their top priorities. However, you must know that your own safety is ultimately your responsibility, and no one else’s. This is why knowing self-defense tactics and using a TASER for protection, are important steps for having a more secured life in this dangerous world.

When you turn on the TV to watch the evening news, or when you read the newspapers every morning, there’s always at least one crime reported. There are auto thefts, random shootings, bank robbery, kidnapping, identity theft—the list goes on and on. Indeed, criminals are being more strategic in developing ways on attacking potential victims. What can we do?

There may be times when you cannot simply avoid being in an environment where you are more at risk to being attacked—whether you expect it or not. Then again, if you know how to intelligently act upon the situation, or if you have a weapon to back you up, who’s to say you’re defenseless?

Take the case of a male nurse, who got killed by a retired teacher (www.msnbc.com/id/23832877/), because the gunman thinks her ill mother is not being well-cared for at the hospital. Incidents like these can be really terrifying, most especially in a hospital where lives are supposed to be saved, and not taken away.

Nurses are vulnerable to danger, most especially since they deal with people that need proper care. Most of the time, these patients either have a mental problem, or experiencing severe trauma. And when their relatives feel that these patients are not taken cared of, issues can arise, which can sometimes lead to unwanted events (such as the one previously mentioned). That’s why a TASER for nurse will be very useful, in situations when danger seems inevitable.

A TASER is a non-lethal weapon that shoots two darts (up to 15 feet), which attach to the assailant’s skin or clothes. Electrical shocks are sent off to temporarily paralyze the would-be attacker, which makes him harmless. So, you have enough time to react to the situation and get help.

Using stun gun TASER is not the only way for self-protection. More importantly, knowing basic self-defense tactics will aid you in being ready to react, given a situation that poses potential risks of danger. Here are some tips to take your safety level up a notch.

Be alert, and stay informed. The worst that anyone can do is to deny the fact that danger does exist. It helps to be informed of the crimes that are prevalent in your neighborhood. This way, you’ll be more aware of what it is that you should be extra cautious about. Also, be a keen observer and stay alert. Criminals attack their victims when they’re caught off-guard. Be attuned to your surroundings, know what’s going on around you, and recognize when there’s a potential danger.

For example, when you’re alone walking home from work, take a street that is well-lit. Don’t use your cell phone and walk fast. Be watchful of your surroundings and if you get that feeling that someone is following you, trust your instinct. Divert your direction and go to a nearby shop. It also helps if you establish multiple routes, so that you don’t have a routine that a potential criminal might know about.

Know where you’re going. Another way that criminals can eye you as a potential victim is if they think you’re unaware of your directions. This is most applicable if you’re a traveler or a tourist in a foreign country. Don’t look like you’re lost (even if this may be hard to do if you really are lost); just think that you don’t want to have another burden by letting a muggler take advantage of you.

Be aggressive. If all else fails and in the event that you fall prey to a felon, what you can do is try your best to avoid physical violence (at first). Try as much as you can to be aggressive, when it comes to attitude and character. With all authority, tell the criminal that you will not let him hurt you. You can also talk him out of doing you harm, through distraction. Tell him stories about your personal life, and maybe even try to question what he’s doing. This way, he relates more to you as a person, and NOT as a victim.

Now, you fight! If all the talking gets you nowhere, and if the attacker starts hurting you, or even before he does, a TASER will be your life-saver. Make use of what you have. If you have coins in your purse, throw them on his face. If you’re wearing high heels, pound it on the criminal’s shin. Just keep your focus and think of all the possible ways to fight for your life. Don’t give up, because the moment you do, the game is over. You lose.

We have to accept the fact that we can’t take away the desire and the ability of felons to commit their crimes. But we most certainly can take away from them the opportunity to do us wrong. Just like in sickness, ‘prevention is better than cure.’ If we prevent ourselves from being target victims, then a crime wouldn’t take place at all. Self-defense and stun gun TASERs—these are your escape from harm’s way.
